Actually this first photo is a "lowlight" to our summer.
We held a party to send off our friends, the Reids. This is a picture of signs posted along our road with all of their names (there are quite a few of them). We miss the Reids and wish them well in their new home.
Bath time is always a highlight of the day for our boys.
The boys had their faces painted at a 4th of July celebration in Northern Virginia with Drew's dad.
I thought Rye might be scared of the boys with their faces painted. Obviously I didn't need to worry.
Here they come.....lots of beach pictures....
Okay, these are not pictures of the beach, but they are pictures of our dinner at a crab house.

Hmmm.... how did Drew end up at the grown up table?
All of the rest of the pictures were taken on the last day of our trip (I finally brought my camera to the beach). We spent all day at the beach and I mean ALL day (7:30 am-5:00 pm). This is a picture of Ben walking over the sand dunes to the beach.
He looked so cute I just had to take a few shots.
We spent a lot of time hanging out in the shade. Here is a picture of us having lunch. Getting out of the sun made it possible to stay out on the beach for an extended period of time.
Rye spent a lot of time in people's laps enjoying whatever food they had at hand.
He spent time in the sand as well.
I had a hard time getting all the sand off each night during bath time.
Jonathan played so hard he ended up falling asleep in the shade.
I tried to get Rye to do the same thing, but he was not interested.
He was much too excited about climbing in and out of chairs and having snacks.
It might seem that this is a repeat of a previous picture, but this one was taken hours later... proving my point of how much Rye liked having time with his Papa.
Noah hurt his knee playing football and spent much of the afternoon lounging under the tent.
It is uncanny how much Noah looks like my dad in this picture.

Ben managed to stay in the shade even away from the tent by borrowing my new beach hat.
Drew decided Ben had enough of sitting around and needed a dip in the ocean.
But after taking a few glances at the waves...
Ben got a reprieve from his toss in the water.
He didn't go in the water on this day, but did attempt boogey boarding earlier in the week.
Unfortunately I didn't have my camera then.
Rye also managed to make it out of the tent.
Just in time to get in the way of Opa and Grandmommy's Bocce game.
Ben also played Bocce with Opa.
It looks too close to call.
Ben takes these things very seriously. ( looks like blue is closest)
When we first got to the beach at 7:30 there was this large board washing up on the sand.
We decided to dig a pit and use it as a bridge.
I took a few pictures before we filled it in and headed to the house for showers and dinner.
It was a perfect day!
We have had other wonderful moments during the summer. Most of them involved friends playing in the yard. Here is one of kids eating lunch after playing in the sprinkler on a day when the heat was unbearable. Such a treat to be able to spend time with the Noll girls.
This is a random picture of Rye (with a shout out to the Tongens for the loaned football jersey).
Not all of our summer was spent being active. The boys spent plenty of down time in front of the TV.
Rye is my only child who is not enamored with "screen time".
Instead he is into bugs.
I think he has a future in pest control. :)
